Pearce Honored as Community Leader of the Year

Shelley Pearce
Shelley Pearce, director of the Conservatory at Wilkes University, was recently honored with the Community Leader of the Year award by the Northeast Intermediate Unit (NEIU). The award recognizes Pearce's contribution to programming at the NEIU, volunteer efforts, connecting the community to "arts in education" programs, and assisting in the development of artists-in-residence programming.
"It's an honor to receive this award, especially since I already feel privileged to work with so many talented, devoted, and creative people every day," said Pearce. "It's the artists and educators, who often go unrecognized, who most deserve accolades."
Pearce has been affiliated with the Cultural Council of Luzerne County for 12 years, and has served two terms as its chairperson. She served two terms on the board of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and co-chaired the organization’s first Piano Competition.
Under Pearce's leadership, the Conservatory at Wilkes has tripled in size and expanded beyond music to include dance, theatre, and art, as well as camps and workshops.
