JCC set to participate in Maccabi Arts Fest for teens

The Wilkes-Barre JCC will send a group of teens to the JCC Maccabi ArtsFest 2008 in Northern Virginia this summer where they can improve their artistic skills, meet other teens and expand their connection to Jewish culture and Israel.

The festival runs July 27-August 1 at the JCC in Fairfax, VA, for those entering grades eight-12. Interested teens should contact Barbara Sugarman or Steven Nachlis at 824-4646 for more information.

The ArtsFest will offer workshops in acting/improv, creative writing, dance, digital media art, jazz/world music ensemble, musical theater, photojournalism, rock/pop bands, visual art and vocal music. A culminating gala performance will top off the week.

The mission of JCC Maccabi ArtsFest is to enable JCCs to reach out to a wider teen audience through the arts. ArtsFest is designed to inspire Jewish teens through a dynamic combination of workshop, performance, exhibition, community service, social activities and fun to develop their individuality through the medium of artistic expression while strengthening their bonds to their Jewish heritage, community and Israel.

This is the third year for the ArtsFest. The first was held in Baltimore and the second in Boca Raton, FL. Those attending will have the opportunity to participate in social activities and the opportunity to take part in Days of Caring and Sharing, a community-service project, as well as an opportunity to develop their artistic gifts under the direction of worldclass artists-in-residence.
